6 Months of Marriage Q & A

It's half a year since Austin and I got married! Six months down, so many more to go. I recently read a post that Brittany and Anthony of Thrifts and Threads wrote up for their 4 year wedding anniversary! Congratulations to them! They were asked 10 questions and they both answered them. They weren't allowed to edit their answers.

I thought this would be a fun and also scary idea for us. So I want to thank them for the inspiration and the questions and if you want to see their post you can find it here: thriftsandthreads.com They're an awesome couple who has surely built an empire over the years!

Here we go, this is mine and Austin's answers.

HAVE YOU EVER BOUGHT ANYTHING AND KEPT THE PURCHASE A SECRET FROM YOUR SPOUSE?

Amanda

I try it all the time, with jeans. But he notices.

Austin

no.

Started our 2017 in Dubai

WHAT WAS THE FIRST MEAL YOUR SPOUSE EVER COOKED FOR YOU? WAS IT GOOD

Amanda

Austin made me a grilled cheese. When we first started dating, him and his friends had “grilled cheese nights” where they would buy a loaf of bread and a pack of cheese and make grilled cheeses all night until they ran out. It was amazing, one of the best sandwiches I ever had.

Austin

On the first day we met, she had made stovetop ziti and baked cupcakes.  Although I didn’t have any ziti, I did have the cupcakes that she personally iced for me on the spot and they were some of the best I’ve ever had.

IS THERE ANY SPECIAL MEMORY ABOUT YOUR SPOUSE THAT YOU WILL NEVER FORGET?

Amanda

This might be really terrible but a memory I won’t forget is when we were just on the cusp of getting serious when dating and he hurt his back at work. He called me because he could barely move and needed to be taken to the doctor. He could’ve called any number of people but he chose to call me. I think it was then when I thought, “oh damn, okay.” I realized I was his person and he became mine because we trusted each other mutually. Ride or die.  Also this meme had us laughing non-stop at the doctor's office:

When we first met, Amanda told me she was really bad with geography, and on our first date, she made such a silly face when she realized she wasn’t even sure which direction New Jersey was from New York.  Now, she's traveled around the world so she should hopefully be a little more knowledgeable than when we first met.

WHAT IS YOUR SPOUSE'S MOST IRRITATING HABIT?

Amanda

I hate that his memory is so bad, it drives me crazy. I think he needs some ginkgo biloba.

Austin

Amanda always leaves things around the house and it takes her days to put them away.

WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNED FROM YOUR SPOUSE THIS YEAR?

Amanda

Geography! It has never been my strong suit, it still isn’t. But being able to travel to so many places this year and understand the world, physically in a different way has been amazing.

Austin

Through all of the podcasts and blogs she's been reading, I’ve learned a lot of social media and marketing techniques through her education.

Just Eloped

WHAT IS YOUR SPOUSE'S "COMFORT" FOOD?

Amanda

Austin never has to be comforted, but there is a food he can not live without and that is chocolate ice cream, it’s his main squeeze.

Austin

Even though I’ve only seen her have it 2 or 3 times in the five and a half years we’ve known each other, I believe it’s her mom’s chicken soup.

WHAT'S ONE ITEM OF CLOTHING YOUR SPOUSE WEARS THAT YOU CAN'T STAND?

Amanda

Luckily, nothing. However, I can’t stand when he waits so long between haircuts. His hair gets so long and then he wants me to cut it for him. Keep in mind, I don’t cut hair. I even cut him once by accident -.-

Austin

Clothes.

IF YOU COULD DO ANYTHING DIFFERENT, WHAT WOULD IT BE?

Amanda

TSA Pre-check. I regret nothing, accept not applying for it when we renewed our passports.

Austin

Although we got to do a decent amount of traveling outside of the United States this year, we still didn’t get to do a lot of summer things together back home like going to Atlantic City or getting Nathan’s Hotdogs in Coney Island.

honeymooning in Iceland

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE MEMORY OF THIS YEAR?

Amanda

There were so many great ones but what tops it all is getting married on a beach in Phuket, Thailand. It felt like my life was beginning and flashing before my eyes. Also it was just fun in general. Massages, watermelon shakes and Thai food!

Austin

It was easily getting married in Thailand.  It was a truly unique, once in a lifetime experience that we were luckily able to fulfill together with the help of some friends and its obviously something we’ll cherish for the rest of our lives.

WHAT BROUGHT YOU CLOSER THIS YEAR?

Amanda

thetravelrats.com We’ve been friends, lovers, co-workers but before this website we never collaborated on something collectively like this. We’ve learned about each other through this, supported each other in ways we never imagined and it’s opened the door to something beautiful.

Austin

While we were in Iceland, we visited the punk rock museum since Amanda figured I would be into something like that. We got to jam together with myself on the drums and Amanda on the guitar.  Although we didn’t get a “real” jam session in since Amanda doesn’t actually play the guitar, it was still fun being able to do something together that I’m passionate about

Museum of Punk Rock that used to be a public restroom, so punk rock.

Hope you all enjoyed getting a closer look at our marriage. We sure did haha.

As always, Safe Travels,

Amanda + Austin
